I can't remember a horror movie title?

I saw this movie a long time ago where this guy (the dad i think) tries to kill his family but fails because he forgot to empty the boiler pressure and it blows the house up and he dies and then it cuts to this bit later where the kid is graduating high school and sees the ghost of his dad standing in the back applauding him and I think the ghost talks to him and it was stupid but I can't remember the name of the movie and it's driving me crazy.
