What is a good camera for me(lots of details)?

I really am into photography, i'm 12... i need something in my budget, about $350 tops. I have a Nikon coolpix that i really don't like, i want something that has a good zoom, and lots of settings. If i get a little compact digital i would want a really high-quality one, maybe a touch screen? I'm looking into the big ones, but all of the little details are really confusing...? I want to know if there are any big nikon cameras that are in my range? If not what is the nicest type of compact small one? What should i look for? How many mega-pix? How much zoom? RECOMEND AWAY!~Jess
